The John Peel Theatre is the home of Wigton Theatre Club, which has been entertaining the people of Wigton for the last 64 years. The club aquired the building and converted it into a theatre in 1964. Ever since, the club has worked hard to improve the building for both audiences and performers.
Two years ago, we had all the electrics in the building overhauled plus we installed a new alarm system, making the building safer for both members and audiences. Now we want to make it more energy efficient and work towards the preservation of the fabric, and further improvement in the comfort of user groups. We plan to replace all stage lights with LEDs. We manage to pay all current bills and maintain low ticket and membership prices, but winter cold is a real problem.
Heating the theatre during the day will help preserve the fabric of this iconic old building; will allow more workshop and rehearsal time in comfort for members; and will reduce running costs, allowing us to spend more on improving lighting and promotion.
